Cross-IFL Transdisciplinary Team Science

As part of a cross-UIFL effort, the team from the SW-IFL is leading a project focused on strengthening transdisciplinary team science knowledge and practices across the UIFL network. These professional learning sessions are a key component of the project. The sessions will be held online to be as accessible as possible to all UIFL research team members. Materials from the sessions will be posted here for UIFL team members who were not able to attend live.

Description	Engaged and transdisciplinary research approaches change the relationship between researchers and societal partners. No longer are community members the subject of research – they are collaborators in the process. We need to consider how to reach beyond our standard research ethics principles to recognize these partnerships. In this session, we’ll focus on understanding the basics of human subjects research (HSR) as well as how to adjust our approaches to ensure equitable and meaningful participation of societal partners in transdisciplinary and engaged research. Engagement and project leaders from the Baltimore Social-Environmental Collaborative (BSEC) IFL will discuss the ways in which they have integrated ethical engagement and research practices into their IFL work and how they are assessing their work through the lens of ethical engagement.
